AIDS Niagara Supportive Housing Program
SERVICES: Supportive housing program, case management, harm reduction
ABOUT: Ministry of Health, Long Term Care Directives to begin a Supportive Housing Program. Since that time the program has continually grown and in 2007 AIDS Niagara received Urgent Priority Funding from LHIN’s to meet the increasing service demands and a continued Program Expansion to begin in 2008. AIDS Niagara’s Supportive Housing Program is the only program in Ontario attached to an AIDS Service Organization with a Harm Reduction and case management approach. With an on-site office, 24 hour staffing, a liaison with the local Community Care Access Centre and other community based services, AIDS Niagara strives to assist those affected by HIV/AIDS to remain living independently through the provision of practical supports, the development of life skills and when necessary the comfort aspects of end of life care. Residents that meet the program’s intake criteria may also be eligible to receive rent geared to income through an agency partnership with Niagara Regional Housing. Residents are responsible for their own rent and food costs. All other support services are provided without charge. The cost or availability of other community services is dependent on the specific community service provider.
